Story
A long standing desire of mine to minimize the distance between visual art and everyday life led me to design silk scarves. I am fascinated by the result that can be achieved by printing on one of the commonest flexible clothing material, fabric. This is enhanced by the dominant and distinctive texture of the high quality silk crêpe satin, which becomes impressively vivid when ambient light, is reflected on it. Silk is one of the strongest natural fibers, it is breathable and hypoallergenic.
Inspired by the multiple effects of color, light and forms, in the following series of scarves many elements are combined; flowers and tartan patterns, fine art photography and abstract photographs of fluorescent lighting fixtures, architectural elements and scannings of hairy body parts. Having as starting point units of my artwork, these scarves encompass and present a vibrant, diverse and original visual vocabulary.
The artworks are printed on high quality silk crêpe satin (16mm) produced in Soufli (Greece). Greek silk is produced with eco-friendly procedures and is considered to be of the finest quality worldwide. Each scarf is wrapped in a box with a distinctive ribbon to be presented as a gift. All scarves bear the artist’s name in the lower right.
